“Trustees of a Glorious Past and Architects of a Bright Future” by George M. Jabbour Worshipful Master 2002
As we reflect on the long and rich history of our Lodge, we are reminded that we are trustees of a great legacy, that of Freemasons who contributed tremendously to the shaping and development of a more progressive, tolerant, free, and democratic world. There is much to celebrate and be proud of! But the deeper we reflect on this glorious past, the more we realize that as inheritors of this legacy we are also called upon to be the architects of its future. What will Masons two hundred years from now say about the generation of Masons of today? What achievements will they point to when assessing our contribution to the nurturing and development of our Noble Craft? Will they be proud of our endeavors to make the world a better place? These are the questions that we should be asking ourselves as we celebrate our bicentennial. The path for our present actions should be determined by having our eye fixed on the future while being guided by the shining light of the past. I am proud to say that Justice-Columbia Lodge No. 3 is walking down that path today. We have been experimenting, as true Masons are supposed to, with new ideas and approaches to: § Render the Fraternity more relevant to the needs of today’s society; § Continue the Craft’s rich tradition of contributing to the ongoing “Great Experiment” as articulated by our late Brother Benjamin Franklin; and § Strengthen universal brotherhood as a means to promote a more enlightened world. My brethren, it’s been a great privilege and honor to serve as the Worshipful Master of this Worshipful Lodge on its bicentennial anniversary. I am proud of the direction this Lodge is taking, but more importantly, I know deep in my heart that its future lies in confident, trustworthy, and “builders” hands. God bless you all, and God bless Freemasonry. |
